Visa Applications
Instructions for Visa Applicants
Applicants are advised to apply for visa at least three months before the expected date of arrival / expiry of the existing visa. (All the visa applications are required to be forwarded for the recommendation / approval of the University Grants Commission, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Defense, before submitting to the Department of Immigration & Emigration)
Documents required for Entry Visa
1. Certified copy of Passport
2. Security Clearance certificate (Police report) obtained within six months.
If the applicant is form one of the below mentioned countries, duly filled entry visa application form/security clearance form should also be filled (available in the website – pgipbs.kln.ac.lk)
Syria ,Nigeria, Afghanistan, Pakistan
Egypt, Cameron, Ghana, Bangladesh
Maldives, Iran, Turkey ,Ivory Coast
After receiving all required documents from the qualified applicants, Institute will send the documents for necessary approvals.
A copy of the Entry Visa Authorization document issued by the Department of Immigration and Emigration, will be sent to the applicant via email. Then the applicant is required to contact the respective Embassy / Consulate of his/her country and do the needful for getting the visa endorsed.
After arrival, applicants should report to the Institute and apply for residence visa.
All residence visa applicants are required to apply for the Health Protection Plan
mandated by the Government, within seven days from the entry.

Residence Visa/ Residence Visa Extension
1. Dully filled application form (available in the website – pgipbs.kln.ac.lk)
2. Certified copy of passport (bio data page, existing residence visa endorsed page, entry visa
endorsed page)
3. Recommendation form the Supervisor – (applicable for research students)
Buddhist Monks and Nuns registered at PGIPBS, will be exempted from Residence visa fees.
Residence visa can be granted for the entire study period at once.
Tourist Visa / Business visa cannot be extended as residence visa.
All residence visa applicants are required to apply for the Health Protection Plan
